As someone who struggles daily with depression and anxiety, working with Hillary these last several months has helped to reinforce the fact that my physical and emotional health go hand in hand I need to focus on both in order to be at my best, if I neglect one it’s inevitable that the other will be affected as well.

Ang, Eau Claire, WIHillary has been my personal trainer for approximately 1 year. In that short amount of time I have seen changes not only in my energy levels but also in my body. I am what other trainers would call a complex client. I have suffered with asthma and back problems all my life. Hillary met both challenges head on. My posture, due to her workout regime, is the best that it is has ever been. I also am now able to complete an intense hour session of cardio and strength training without reaching for my inhaler. Other challenges that I presented to Hillary over the past year have been a broken finger and a broken foot. Each time she altered and changed our work-outs to target other areas so I would not fall behind. Thanks to Hillary I am now able to keep up with my two kids and my self confidence is better than ever.

I had never been a member of a gym or worked with a trainer, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I started training three times per week with Brent in June 2007. Brent had kept my interest up by using a variety of workout routines. The workouts are intense but very effective. He also has encouraged me to make better nutritional choices. I have worked out at Highland Fitness Center on and off for the past six years. I would faithfully come for about six months and then fall off track. My weight yoyo'd every year for those six years.
Finally one day I decided enough was enough, and at my highest weight, I came to Highland for help. I got my membership and joined Thin and Healthy. My next step was to get a personal trainer. I knew I would need the assistance of someone, as I was easily waivered when it came to working out. I received a free personal training session when I got my membership and I requested Hillary. I have known Hillary for a while and I knew whe was a great trainer and if anyone could help me it would be her.
We began working out together and it was amazing. She pushed me to my limits every time we worked out. She gave me great eating tips in every session and also little workouts programs to do when we weren't working out together.

I joined Highland Fitness, with a friend of mine.. We had been doing the
classes at Community Fitness, at the college.
One of the deciding factors to Join Highland Fitness, was the time. Getting up at 4:30 a.m., although we did it, was challenging at times.
And we noticed that we, after a couple years, still looked the same! We
felt good, but no progress.
We joined Highland Fitness, and I was paired with Hillary. That first day I clicked with her. I felt like I was Her (only) client, and I had
issues. 5 screws holding my shoulder up, back surgery with tons of scar
tissue, a bum knee..... and I am slightly over 21.....
Hillary started out by rehabilitating my shoulder, doing things the right
way.. When I started I could not put my right arm over my head or out to my side. I was weak. Now I can do the imaginable thing of doing a plank... me... yes... me... and arm over my head? no problem... lift weights not for the wimpy..... I can do these things now. Thanks to Hillary.
Now we work on my over-all fitness. And again... I am doing things thought
not ever to do!. And I keep coming back for more!
Being challenged in a comfortable friendly way, never saying never, always
positive, this is why I like Hillary. and why I am seeing changes in my body, for the good. I am still working on the whining part... did I say wine?

My name is Joyce Mathews. I've had an Angel (Hillary) for my trainer. She knows just how hard to work me and when to take it easy. When she became my trainer, I was in a lot of pain from Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, and Diabetes. I had pain in my feet, shoulders, hips, legs, knee, and very badly in my neck. At the age of 73, I didn't think she could help much.
Hillary worked out the pain within my body with her, "Come on you can do it". She told me why my body was hurting, explained my exercises, and how they worked different parts of my body. With Hillary, I learned how to relax and heal from the inside out, and to always stay positive and consistent. She also gave me advice on things to eat on my diet. I’ve struggled with rehabilitating knee, shoulder, elbow, and low back injuries for most of my adult life. It seemed that things would go well for a while with my exercise routines, and then some injury would set me back again. I originally came to Highland Fitness after knee surgery to get back to my old exercise routines, not realizing that insisting on the same old routines I’d always used were the reason I was getting injured.
Working with Hillary, my outlook on exercise began to change. Initially I felt that exercise was a necessary evil that I needed to do to control my weight. I was unconcerned with how my body worked or how the exercises I was doing affected my joints, muscles and mind. Although I have worked with several trainers at Highland Fitness, it has been the past year working exclusively with Hillary Sanwick that has radically shifted my outlook on exercise and the place it occupies in my life. I’ve learned that function is key to my longevity, and that the exercises I choose must fit the things I do in my everyday life.
When I began working with Hillary one year ago, I couldn’t run the length of the mat room, lift a 10-pound weight over my head, or use the leg extension machine. I became dizzy while doing pushups. I was afraid of becoming injured again. Slowly, patiently, Hillary built programs that allowed me to be successful in the gym without injury. She has also taken the time to explain why we are doing the things we do, and encouraged me to learn about how my body works. Hillary has insisted that I set goals-long and short term, and always asks how I’m doing with the things I am working on.
These days, I am working on getting in touch with the REAL me. Healing my body through functional exercise has helped me begin to clear up a host of other issues. I’m still a work in progress, but, with Hillary’s help, I’ve come a very long way in just one year’s time. Oh, and by the way, I run many lengths of the mat room now, lift weight confidently over my head, lunge like a pro, do pushups without problems, and am working on my 200 hour Yoga teacher certificate. I originally joined Highland Fitness to lose weight for summer. A personal
trainer was something I felt I didn't need - I can do all that myself right?
Prior to Highland Fitness, I had no ambition to do better- I didn't know enough about taking care of myself to truly feel the benefits you get from it. I went from starting my days ready to go - until about 11am, then I was tired!
Only part of my day was gone, and already all my energy had been depleted.
I started working with Hillary to get a few pointers and go on alone in my
venture.
Working with Hillary was one of the best things I've ever done for
myself!! She has taught me that you are ineffective in everything you're capable of ---IF ----- you don't take care of yourself. Once you've
successfully put yourself first, you not only take care of everyone else
better - you are essentially caring for yourself better than you've imagined
possible.
Hillary follows best practice starting with core muscles. Having a medical
background - I know it's a huge mistake to build outlying structure when your
core isn't stable. WOW, what a difference a solid core does for every move
you make. She is perfect at individualizing every aspect of your time - when
you're with Hillary - it's all about the better of you.
I'm in better shape than I've ever been, I feel years younger, and my
kids get a run for their money. Being an accomplished-ambitious person to
begin with, I would have never imagined getting more done at home, work,
and with family than I ever was able to accomplish before. Hillary has
given me the gift of self care; educated me to be patient with my progress,
and helped me accomplish the consistency I was unable to accomplish on my
own.
To say thank you - wouldn't even partially measure up to how I feel she's
benefited my life.

Working out at Highland has, in my eyes, been a privilege; every week, my car faithfully brings me to the gym to exercise among friendly staff and attendees. From what I’ve experienced, everyone treats everyone else with consideration and respect. And thanks to trainers and people that I’ve been able to get to know at Highland, my workout routine has begun to become more versatile; no one is ever too busy to suggest and demonstrate new exercises (or “toys,” as I love to call them), which I eagerly add to my workout routine. Just as versatile as the workout is the conversations I have with trainers and others; we can be engaged in small talk sunny-side-up or get deep into training technique. All conversation that I’ve had with anyone rejuvenates when continuing my exercise. During my stint at Highland, I have noticed some valuable benefits from working out. I have a very stressful job, and when I leave work, my mind is in overdrive. Exercising at Highland opens up the drain in my brain and soon, I notice I can think more clearly. I have also added some muscle to my body and kept off the 50-60 pounds that I took off about four years ago. However, the biggest value from going to Highland is that I get to beat the family medical history; about four years ago, it appeared I was in danger of having diabetes, but thanks to my taking up exercising then---and continuing it at Highland---my doctor has declared me not to be diabetic; my blood sugar and cholesterol levels have been “excellent” since then. My doctor was impressed with my self-motivation in exercising and exclaimed that THAT was the true solution to diabetes! If anyone would have told me five years ago that I would be a fan of the gym, I would deemed them certifiable---now I’m definitely certified! Another thing I like about attending Highland is leaving. Picture this with a flash---as I proceed past the desk and the offices, I get to acknowledge most everyone I see with a wave or some parting words. What a motivational display to keep coming back! I hope the Highland staff realizes just how valuable that is for me.

I have, and still do seasonal sports, from biking, kayaking, running, hiking, golf, skiing & snow shoeing.I had always done some weight training on my own. About two years ago I joined Highland Fitness, as my club had closed. To get jump started I decided to work with a trainer. Hillary was my choice. I had observed how she worked with her clients, and how she motivated them. Each client seemed to get a work out program custom designed for just them. I saw her work with clients of all ages and she treated them equally the same. When they had their training session she always gave them her undivided attention.I got started two years ago in November. Just before the start of the ski season.Hillary had designed a program focused to x-c skate skiing. I had just started skate skiing that winter. One of the things I needed to focus on was better balance techniques. She incorporated a lot of balance routine in my work out, along with the strength training.As I did my work outs, my skiing became better, and I was much stronger. Over the years I had dealt with knee and wrist injuries. Without her knowledge of the proper strength training techniques I would not have fully recovered so quickly. As the seasons change my custom training program changes to fit the sport I am doing. Four years ago I joined Highland Fitness. Hillary became my personal
trainer. She customizes my workouts to fit my ability and needs. Hillary
safely pushes me to exceed my limits. From her I have learned the

To Hillary,
For the past seven months, I have been training with Hillary twice a week. Going back to March of 2012, I was diagnosed with a herniated disc and received two steroid shots in my lower spine while also attending physical therapy. After not getting results from either the shots or the physical therapy, I talked to a surgeon about removing part of the disc that was impacting my sciatic nerve. By this time I was unable to stand for more than 15 minutes without being in severe pain. I decided not to have surgery, so my primary physician put me on a fentanyl pain patch if I agreed to attend a physical training program a couple times a week. So in August of 2012, I joined Highland Fitness and started training with Hillary. I was not able to do much in the beginning and we mainly focused on stretching and core strengthening exercises. I walked like a zombie, a lot like the ones in the "Walking Dead", toe to heal, dragging my left foot, and my shoulders up past my ears. Hillary worked on a complete program including nutrition, relaxation, and physical rehabilitation. I have never met anyone so focused on and passionate about their work. She continuously educates herself in ways to better herself and her client's health. Today, my back pain is under control, I have decreased my fat weight and increased my lean muscle weight substantially, and I can again participate in activities that require physical fitness.

How do you write about someone who has changed your life without sounding
completely sappy? I have to try. A couple of years ago, about the time I
was not thinking too highly of myself, Hillary suggested I take a look at
the Total Solutions program - not have you thought about losing weight, but
here is a way for you to change if you really are interested. She arranged
for me to talk with Julie and after sincere thought I joined the program.
That does not mean I left Hillary behind. Since I was in the fitness
center three to four times a week, I had constant contact with her and
always received positive reinforcement from her, which I badly needed and am
eternally grateful for. I have met with Hillary every six to eight weeks
to freshen up my workout regime (that’s a fancy word for new ways to
torture my worn out body.) Each time we meet, she targets another body
area, cardio, strength, flexibility, etc.
She is eminently qualified as a trainer, her knowledge of how the body
works, and how to help you tone up and strengthen weak spots is phenomenal
and freely shared just for the asking. She makes the process easier to
deal with, due to her wicked sense of humor which is deeply appreciated.
As you can tell, I think she is a special human being and I thank her for

Somehow that doesn’t say it all.
I joined Highland Fitness after getting the okay by an orthopedic physician that I had been seeing for knee pain. My goal was to strengthen my body to delay knee replacement surgery.
My son is a Highland Fitness member and he said, “Mom, you should join Highland Fitness and see if you could work with Hillary. She knows what knee pain is and she can help you.”
I came to Highland Fitness with knee pain that could be so painful that stairs were extremely difficult and the morning walks with my dog Beau were getting to be more of a chore than my favorite part of my day. I also had some anxiety about exercising in front of people I felt were in a lot better shape than I was.
Hillary helped me set up an exercise plan that I could follow at home. Each time we meet she helps me assess my progress and adjusts my exercise plan. Hillary makes changes to the plan so I have never lost interest. Actually the opposite has happened. I look forward to every Tuesday with Hillary. She is so enthusiastic about working out . Hillary inspires me to keep pushing myself until she smiles at me and says “You did it!” Not once have a felt lectured or pushed too far. In fact she has pulled me back when I come back in the gym hurting and helps me stretch and work to sooth those muscles.
At first, the work out equipment was just a little intimidating, to say the least. Just last night Hillary had me try a different machine and I am proud to say, I did it!
Hillary is supportive, inspiring, patient and smart.

Almost three years ago, I met someone that would change not only my health, but also my life. That person would be Hillary Sanwick.
Three years ago, after some motivation from my husband, I started training with Hillary two days a week in order to help alleviate my then frequent migraines, poor posture, and lack of energy. Within months, the migraines were gone, my posture improved, and my energy level had significantly increased.
After I saw these changes and gained some much needed confidence in myself that I can do this, I knew it was time for some new goals including weight loss. I will admit, I have had my ups and downs over the years, but Hillary has stood beside me the entire time encouraging me, listening to me, and motivating me to be a better person - inside and out.
I am proud to say that I have lost 8% of my body fat and am at the lowest weight I have been at in 20 years. I have finally made a healthy lifestyle change! And I know I would not be there without HIllary. She is a very dedicated coach who cares not only about my health, but about ME.
She keeps me motivated to keep doing this every week and has the knowledge to help me reach my goals. She has a drive in her that she reflects onto others and has taught me never to give up when things are tough. Unknown, Eau Claire, WIWorking out with a personal trainer has changed my body and attitude! I started working out with a trainer because of some back problems that caused daily pain. I wanted to make sure I was lifting properly to not hurt my back more. Not only have I reached goals in terms of weight/inches but my back has become so strong that I rarely ever have pain anymore. Having a set appointment with my trainer, Hillary, makes me never skip the gym. I also get nutritional information and encouragement from her. The one on one support is awesome!
